Understanding the CrossFit season in the Netherlands

Planning your competitive season requires a clear view of the calendar across the Netherlands. Compete Zone lists major competitions selected by our team, including The Beach Showdown, Battle of the North, Dutch Throwdown, Lowlands Throwdown, and The Amsterdam Throwdown. These events allow athletes to test their training, earn a place on the competition floor, and measure their progress across divisions.

The competitive season unfolds throughout the entire year across qualifiers and live stages. Online qualifiers begin as early as January and run in months such as May, June, July, September, October, and November. On-site finals are held in months including January, May, June, October, November, and December, giving athletes continuous targets for both spring and winter peaks.

Events take place across different provinces of the country, specifically Noord-Holland, Groningen, and Noord-Brabant. This spread across regions gives competitors options whether they are based locally or traveling for a specific stage of the calendar.

Use this page to track key dates for your season. Below, you will find a calendar outlining both online qualifiers and finals by month, alongside details on unannounced editions based on their usual months and data from last season. Registration links direct you to each organiser's official platform.

Frequently asked questions

How does an online qualifier work?

Athletes complete the required workouts in their own gym and submit them with a video or a judge's validation. Scores are ranked on a leaderboard, and the best athletes are invited to the on-site final where places are limited.

What divisions are available at these events?

Most competitions offer individual divisions as well as team formats for pairs and teams of 3 or 4, with categories for men, women, or mixed squads. You will also find age-based divisions such as Masters and Teens.

Which skill level should I sign up for?

Events typically feature RX, Scaled, Intermediate, and sometimes Elite divisions, alongside categories for first-timers such as Rookie, Beginner, or Novice. The organiser publishes the workout standards with specific movements and loads, which is the best way to pick your division.

Do all divisions require an online qualification?

Some competitions start with an online qualifier before an on-site final, but formats vary by event. In certain competitions, organisers select only their top divisions, such as Elite, through a qualification stage.

Where do I register for the competitions?

Compete Zone lists competitions directly from the organisers' platforms. All athlete registrations take place on the organiser's official website.
